I’ve done a blog before, briefly, but thought it might be fun to document some art experiments…or find a place to journal the things I enjoy in art. This will be that place.
Working in watercolors
I’ve been working in watercolors lately, trying to learn the best ways to use them. Lots of artists talk about how to do washes correctly, how to mix paints on the paper rather than in the palette, how to run a bead to keep the leading edge of the paint fluid and have the ability to soften edges…this is all my experiments learning to accomplish some form of mastery of the medium.
What I’m trying now
I love trying new techniques and colors in my sketchbook. For a while I was painting faces and now am back to trying landscapes and florals. I try to keep myself from boring myself and I believe that’s why I’m constantly trying new subject matter. Everyday, when I go to paint, I’m not sure what I will be trying next. It’s a challenge to find a new subject matter and think about how to render it with watercolors. I will try to cover my thought processes while I do this and when I write these new blog pages. I will post failures as well as watercolors that I like and try to analyze where I think it went south or what I think I did right. You can help me by commenting your opinions of the art as well.
Please feel free to join me on this adventure.
